Hair crabs at Umiake (First date of shore lead appearance)!
March has come, and snow has started to melt. This is the best season for hairy crabs at Umiake. Umiake…literally meaning “First date of shore lead appearance”…refers to the period when drift ice starts to move away from the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk in the eastern part of Hokkaido, and expresses the joy of spring in Hokkaido, which has been long buried under the snow and ice. Crabs which have grown by eating plankton, etc. under the snow and ice taste excellent! Please come to Nijo Market and taste the crab! In addition, we are planning to participate this year as well in the Tanuki Nijo Sake Festival, a yearly event held during Golden Week. Please wait for further information.
